WiP Wed – Star Wars. The saga continues.

Been some time since I’ve done a WiP Wednesday. Don’t get me wrong, I have plenty of WiPs, just none that have been active of late. Until now.

The LEGO Star Wars quilt has evolved. Oh yes. It’s true. It involved much unpicking (unpleasant) then took about 2 weeks to decide on what to do next (indecisive) and another week to actually do it (unmotivated). Whew. A saga indeed.

But now… there is a quilt top! It’s also gone from being a 50” x 60” lap quilt, to a 70” x 95” bed quilt! Whew.

LEGO Star Wars quilt continues

It was worth those hours of unpicking. I actually think I heart this quilt more now with the bigger borders. Just for the sake of it, let’s look at a before and after shot.

Before and After

Oh yeah. I’m totally loving this. Of course, I maintain the right to reverse that statement while I am in the midst of basting and then quilting this monster. But for now, I’m loving it. I’ll bind it in black too which I think will tie it together beautifully. Now… it’s taken this many weeks to get to this stage. Let’s see how many more until it’s finished…

And for the curious, you can read more about the original LEGO Star Wars quilt here, and you can also pop over and find all these LEGO patterns as freebies in my Craftsy shop. Yep. Free. If you do attempt it, of course there’s only one thing I can say: May the Force be with you.

  12. You were very determined to unpick it all! But I have to say I think it was So worth it, it looks even more fab with those gorgeous red borders! It frames them beautifully and black binding with it will be perfect. May the force be with you for a quick (ish) finish!!!

  17. Beautiful job. I like it better with the borders too. I just finished 2 (yes - glutton for punishment) paper pieced Dr. Who quilts so I understand "unpicking (unpleasant), what to do next (indecisive) and actually do it (unmotivated)" saga. I sent them out for quilting - may be that should be your choice.

  18. Oh that is so worth it! The red border really makes a difference (and it was fab before!). I've been chatting with Lily about her quilt and casually suggesting that I don't make every single one of your blocks. She has given me a reprieve and relinquished Asoka. Of course, one less puts the entire quilt out of balance, so I'm really no better off!

  21. Well, I agree all of the unpicking was well worth the work!! What we won't do for our children... right! Labors of love. It is fabulous!!
