Radiant Orchid Sewing

I think we have all heard by now that Radiant Orchid is the Pantone colour of the year. I have to say – it’s a bit pretty. I do like a nice purple but goodness it can be hard to find purple fabrics sometimes. I tend to stash purples to fill up envelopes when I make fabric orders as you really need to snap them up when you see them!

I am mighty glad I have done that as this month’s Care Circle (of do.Good Stitches) called for Radiant Orchid purple blocks. I will admit to spending some time on Pinterest searching “Radiant Orchid” and comparing it to my meagre stack of purples. I finally found some that I think worked for the purpose. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Central Park block

The centre tiled print is from Central Park by Kate Spain. So pretty! The other prints are just some blenders I had floating in my stash – not sure of names. Sorry!

Collage block

The centre print here is from Collage by Such Designs, with a little bit of Color Weave on the outside and some of my last scraps of Seaside Cottage (the grey – I love this print!).

Our Queen Bee chose this gorgeous block which is called “Souvenir” and can be found here on Quilter’s Cache. I really enjoyed making it. There are a few HSTs involved but not enough to make these blocks feel like a chore (you get me right? HST trimming is not fun!). I think Gina is going to have the most beautiful quilt when she is done!

Radiant Orchid Blocks

So what do you think? Did I make the cut? Is the Orchid Radiant enough? I almost hope you say no so I can keep these pretties for myself Winking smile Don’t worry Care Circle gals, I’m not that dodgy. I’ve packaged them up already to send them off. Sadly. Winking smile

  3. Lovely blocks. Radiant Orchid is an odd colour, does not combine well with standard shades and hues, requires purchase of several other fabrics to work. I am not convinced it is colour of the year either. Have not seen much of it anywhere.

  4. Sadly I think you have nailed it Kristy! What a great theme for a Bee block too.

  5. I've heard frequent mention of Radiant Orchid and Pantone - but I've never heard of Pantone so I'm not really sure what it's all about. It doesn't much matter as I am a big purple fan so I like seeing lots of it about in the blogosphere - and I've also learned how to keep orchids alive since moving to France! :-)
I do so agree that purple fabric is hard to find. Lynne.

  8. Think you have really nailed this one :) Do like the grey with the purple it really adds something to the hue, one happy bee recipient I think :)

  12. Can't wait to receive these beautiful blocks. I love the photo of them on your wooden floor. All of the Bee members have done a fantastic job with colour matching and searching for just the right shade of purple. Thank you Kristy
