Paper Piecing Party

So the other week I talked about attempting a New York Beauty block fro Gemma as Queen Wombat this month. Unfortunately… that block did not work out too well. The curves went skewiff, the edges went wonky, and the points decided not to meet. Not even close. It made me sad. So I tossed it. No photo proof because ugh.

Back to the drawing board! I decided to go with a compass block – that has an echo of curves but no actual curved piecing. This worked a lot better! Look! A pretty finished block with nice tidy points!

Pioneer's Compass

The pattern is called a Pioneer’s Compass. I was much happier with how this worked out! The fabrics are Comma (in orange and yellow) and the pink is a Raindrop print. Great blender!

Fabrics

So yay! It’s slow sewing at the moment so I’ll admit to being a bit devastated the first block that I worked so hard on didn’t work. But thankfully, this one went together without any hitches. I guess sometimes when the sewjo is low, you gotta stick with what you know (like that little rhyme?).

Thanks everyone for all those beautiful comments on my giveaway. At a time when I’ve been feeling a bit down with being unwell, they were very cheery and I so appreciated them. Thank you also for the well wishes. I am finally starting to feel better and even sewing again. Hooray! Onwards and upwards, my friends. So the winners of the giveaway are: Kathy, Sandy and Carol. I have emailed you lucky people!

Now onto show and tell time! Let’s see what you’ve been working on this week!

  8. Ditto everything above, but also - thanks for sharing that you had difficulty with the curved piecing. I wouldn't wish sewing woes on anyone, but you're my paper piecing hero, and it makes sewing so much more approachable (and fulfilling) when you know not everyone can master every technique the first time.
