Paper Piecing Party
So the other week I talked about attempting a New York Beauty block fro Gemma as Queen Wombat this month. Unfortunately… that block did not work out too well. The curves went skewiff, the edges went wonky, and the points decided not to meet. Not even close. It made me sad. So I tossed it. No photo proof because ugh.
Back to the drawing board! I decided to go with a compass block – that has an echo of curves but no actual curved piecing. This worked a lot better! Look! A pretty finished block with nice tidy points!
The pattern is called a Pioneer’s Compass. I was much happier with how this worked out! The fabrics are Comma (in orange and yellow) and the pink is a Raindrop print. Great blender!
So yay! It’s slow sewing at the moment so I’ll admit to being a bit devastated the first block that I worked so hard on didn’t work. But thankfully, this one went together without any hitches. I guess sometimes when the sewjo is low, you gotta stick with what you know (like that little rhyme?).
Thanks everyone for all those beautiful comments on my giveaway. At a time when I’ve been feeling a bit down with being unwell, they were very cheery and I so appreciated them. Thank you also for the well wishes. I am finally starting to feel better and even sewing again. Hooray! Onwards and upwards, my friends. So the winners of the giveaway are: Kathy, Sandy and Carol. I have emailed you lucky people!
Now onto show and tell time! Let’s see what you’ve been working on this week!

ReplyDeleteLovely block!
ReplyDeleteHi Kristy! Nice to hear you feel better! Your compass block is fantastic! I have painted one like this on a tray and on our BBQ fridgerator. I would love to sew also! Thank you for hosting! x Teje
ReplyDeleteShame about the NYB disaster, but your compass block looks great, so there was a silver lining! Glad to hear you are feeling better too.
ReplyDeleteFinally have a link for the party it has been a while :)
Your block for Gemma is gorgeous Kristy!! I want to make one!! and the colors and prints you picked out are beautiful as well as being perfect for the recipient!!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you're feeling better. Love your block- it looks perfect for Gemma!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are feeling better!!! And kinda nice to know the queen of paper piecing has problems piecing sometimes too!!! Lol!!! Hope for all of us!! 😉
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling well enough to sew again! Pioneer Compass is stunning.
ReplyDeleteDitto everything above, but also - thanks for sharing that you had difficulty with the curved piecing. I wouldn't wish sewing woes on anyone, but you're my paper piecing hero, and it makes sewing so much more approachable (and fulfilling) when you know not everyone can master every technique the first time.
ReplyDeletethe compass looks brilliant, and glad you are starting to feel a bit better :-)
ReplyDeleteOMGoodness...this is an absolutely beautiful block! I love your color choices. Soooo glad that you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteHugs! Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. It stinks when these things get in the way of what we are trying to do! Take your time and enjoy the process of sewing:) love this block!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour block turned out great, love the cool colour background with the warm prints.
