LEGO Star Wars – 1/4 of the way there!

So I was a bit excited at being 1/8 of the way to getting my son’s LEGO Star Wars quilt done. I’ve added a couple more blocks and now I’m a LOT excited to be 1/4 of the way to being done!

New paper pieced LEGO Star Wars friends…

C3PO:

and the ultimate “baddie”, Darth Vader:

Paper Pieced LEGO Darth Vader

These guys still need embroidery to get them closer to being finished, but I”m keeping the paper on the backs of all the blocks til I’m ready to sew them together. It’s going to be a nightmare removing all that paper. Good thing I love my kid. Like lots.

Especially after he told he doesn’t want Vader on his quilt as he is “too bad guy”. Sorry kid. This too me hours to piece. He’s making the cut. I’ll just put him down the bottom somewhere and surround him by good guys to keep him in line.

Paper Pieced LEGO Star Wars blocks so far

Here’s what one quarter of a LEGO Star Wars quilt looks like. It’s starting to come along! I’m hanging out for my fabric order to arrive soon so I can start on the “people” characters. No suitable flesh tones in my stash until then.

Keen to make your own LEGO Star Wars quilt? Check in on my Craftsy shop. I’ve been adding the patterns as they get tested. So far, Princess Leia has been the most popular in downloads!

I thought I was finished designing LEGO Star Wars characters. Til I realised I’m missing Padme. I thought she was a minor character, but since being sucked into playing LEGO Clone Wars III, I’m realising she’s a bit more important than I thought. Well for my kids’ preferred version of Star Wars anyways. He’s less interested in the old-school guys, and more into the Clone Wars guys. Seeing as it’s a quilt for him… guess I’ll be drawing a Padme character soon. Seriously. That kid of mine.  He’s lucky I love him so much.

  1. those blocks ROCK! my nine year old wild thing would absolutely go crazy for a Star Wars quilt (and my 38 year old hubby thinks it's pretty cool too). That's so funny that he said that about Darth Vader. My wild thing just looooves the baddies. The quilt definitely needs him! haha!

  3. You're doing well, C3PO looks great. And as for Darth Vader I can't help thinking that a Star Wars quilt without Darth Vader is just, well, not complete. You have to have balance, and that Storm Trooper will need a boss guy so he has to be there!

  4. I LOVE C3PO!!! The fabrics are perfect. You rock. I'm with Sooli - you HAVE to have Vader. Sorry J but you are soooo outvoted. ;)

  7. loving the patterns! you should know that obi wan's pattern is incorrectly labelled 'princess leia', so there are 2 princess patterns.. but one of them is really obi wan... confusing, sorry! but that might be why princess leia is so popular.. people are trying to download both!

  10. C3P0 is so cute! All the blocks are fantastic. I totally agree that Vader needs to stay in the quilt. Surrounding him with good guys is a great idea LOL!

  14. Hilarious!! The things we do for our children!! Quilt looks fantastic!! And if you left Darth out now, later when your son is older he will say, why did you take him out!! lol you can't win! Easier to leave him in than add him later!

  18. This is so clever. And you have got Anakin so you already have Darth Vader anyway! And DV comes good in the end and makes up with Luke so he isn't all bad. Can you tell I have watched SW far too many times? I will blame my 2 boys for that.

  19. Aw! I don't know about Padme, she's a new one on me - but if you add her you could banish Darth to the "dark side" on the back of the quilt ;-) Then your son can take a peek at him on days when he feels he can face the "too bad guy"...

  26. well, clearly you love your son more than I love mine! that is one crazy, ambitious, awesome quilt! ;) I haven't tried paper piecing blocks like that yet. It intimidates me, but I absolutely love how it looks. I'll be following along to see your progress. (and yes, Padme is important) xo amy

  29. I found this via Why Not Sew. I was whooping with delight at the Lego Star Wars blocks. I have a son in law (!) who is a huge fan of both Lego and Star Wars so will definitely be making this one. I've sorted fabric to start with C3PO and look forward to seeing new blocks as you release them. Thank you so much.
