WiP Wed – Star Wars. The paper piecing continues.

I’m afraid now that I have embarked on what shall be forever known as the Epic LEGO Star Wars quilt… there’s going to be a lot of pictures and post relating to it. Don’t worry, I’ll try to mix it up for those that aren’t fans. I get it. I used to be a nonfan. Technically I still am. I’m a child of the 80’s who has never seen the original Star Wars. However having a nearly 6 year old son with a special interest in it, I'm a fan by default.

So paper pieced LEGO Star Wars blocks are on the agenda. Here’s what my blocks are looking like now:

Paper pieced LEGO Star Wars blocks

3 characters, 3 lightsabers. My block count is now 6/32. Slow but steady wins the race. Or something.

Paper pieced LEGO Storm Trooper

I just finished this LEGO Stormtrooper guy today. I haven’t embroidered the lines on his “mouth” as of yet. I’m keeping the paper on all the blocks until they are ready to be put together. So finishing touches will be added at that point in time.

Paper pieced LEGO R2D2

Re-did LEGO R2D2’s closeup pic as his last one didn’t turn out so well. He’s looking pretty spiffy in his Color Weave fabrics.

Paper pieced LEGO Lightsabers

And the LEGO lightsaber blocks increased by one. I still need to add in a green lightsaber to keep my children happy colour-wise. These will be border blocks on the quilt. Just going with the four lightsaber colours I think – not sure if there are more. I didn’t even know lightsabers came in colours other than red and blue. J has since educated me. Oh I have added the LEGO lightsaber pattern to my Craftsy shop as a freebie. More patterns will be added as they are ready Smile

So it’s getting there. Just over two months to get 32 paper pieced blocks made, then assembled and into a decent lap quilt. Busy busy.

And as promised, something for the non-fans. Here’s my other WiP.

do.good Stitches June blocks

These are the June blocks for the Care Circle of do.good Stitches. I am loving how this one is coming together. Still a few more blocks to make their way to me before this one goes together however. So I guess that means I have more time to work on the Epic LEGO Star Wars quilt. My son will be pleased. ;)

  1. You are very clever and you have one lucky 6 year old :) BUT you must watch the original Star Wars film as you hand stitch on those little details - I promise it will be worth your while - lol!

  3. I am a Star Wars Fanatic...I saw your blocks on your previous posts, and on pinterest, etc. They are a true inspiration, although paper piecing seems a nightmare!

  11. Nice! I'm not only a child of the 80s and a self proclaimed nerd, but a movie buff and never seen them save for a few scenes here and there. I tried once years ago and they just didnt grab me. I suspect they don't hold up so well, but will never know since Lucas films (and now Disney) demands that I if want them I can only have them in a three pack BluRay.

Despite my failures as a nerd - I still get it though! I know how important it is to people and deep in their soul i resides (I feel that way about Alf, ha! I kill me!). These are great, you're going to have a delighted six year old and a lot of jealous grown-ups! Will check back in to see what you're up to with it.

  14. are you making the Star Wars patterns yourself? or are they out floating in the interwebs somewhere? They look awesome and I'd love to make several blocks of my own as a fan of the originals. :) Looks awesome!

  15. I did the Batman one for you and it came out to 7 1/4". Stumped. I did print them out correctly though. No biggie though since I am going to add a lot of borders to make it big enough to turn into a pillow. The hubby wants me to make a few more in different Batman colors and make a pillowcase. Great idea, but I,on the other hand, would like to just make a pillow for now. I am breaking from paper piecing a bit due to wanting to do something new and we are going on vacation next month. Other projects to work on!

Your blocks are so COOL!!! beautiful work!

  17. (!) Gasp! I can't believe you haven't seen the originals!? I can't even count the number of times we watched them growing up thanks to my parents having the trilogy on--wait for it!--LASER DISC {read: giant DVDs that became obsolete right around the time they were first released ;)}

Oddly enough, even after all that I still don't fancy myself a fan, but I *did* have lots of fun stitching up Ahsoka (http://www.nohatsinthehouse.com/2013/06/the-other-lady.html). The first of many to come!

  18. I can't believe you've never seen Star Wars! Ok, I'm obviously old as I can remember going to see the first one at the movies when I was in high school! Running joke in our house is that my hubby and I refer to the 'real' Star Wars (1, 2 & 3) movies as compared to what's now known as Star Wars 4, 5 & 6, and don't even get me started on the new movies and the modifications to the originals. We have the old version originals and that's it! Purists here!
Your blocks are looking great! You will be so over these when you're done I bet.

  29. I love seeing how they look in fabric. They are so awesome! I think if I start now, I'll get done by MY son's 6th birthday (he turns 4 in September). That would still be more than one a month. I WILL do these, though:)
