Kate Spain Blog Hop – You know you’ve been waiting for it!

 KS BH

My name’s Kristy and I’m a Spainaholic. There. I’ve said it. I just adore Kate Spain’s fabric designs. So much so, I think it’s hard to pick a favourite. Maybe Cuzco? Oh but then there’s Good Fortune… or Terrain… or the new Sunnyside?! See? Tough decision.

Some of my favourite projects have been made with Kate Spain’s fabrics. Coincidence? I think not.
In fact, I even have some on display on a daily basis. In the form of my sewing machine cover.

It’s paper pieced of course – one of the earliest paper pieced patterns I tackled! (The paper pieced pattern is a freebie from Charise Creates by the way). I picked my favourite fabric at the time – and I still love it just as much now though it does not look quite so pristine anymore (hence no new photo!).

Also on daily display is a bit of Cuzco. I made this cushion using 2.5” mini charm squares. And again, I know this will be a surprise, it’s paper pieced.

Sweet Treats Cuzco Too Pretty for Pickles Cushion

Love this cushion. Love Cuzco. Love Kate Spain. I think there’s a bit of a theme happening here. Also, if you’re keen to try this pattern yourself (called Too Pretty for Pickles), I’ve made it a freebie in my Craftsy shop for the duration of the Kate Spain blog hop.

I do have some bigger projects as well – and not paper pieced! I know, it’s shocking. This one I recently parted with, a little reluctantly. But it was going as a gift for a new baby. Clearly the baby will now have good taste in fabric after being introduced to Kate Spain at such an early age. So it was worth the sacrifice.

Peacocks in the Garden

I used a Cuzco charm pack for the centres of this Garden Fence quilt, paired with coordinating Bella Solids. Love.

Diamond Square Good Fortune quilt

Then there’s my very first Good Fortune charm pack – made into a little lap quilt. This is one of my early quilts and again, I have only just parted with it. I tend to make quilts and stash them away for the right opportunity. This one was sent off to a family who lost everything in bushfires earlier in the year. I figured they could use a bit of “Good Fortune” in all senses of the words!

I also dabbled with a little bit of Fandango – the only bit of Fandango I ever managed to find to grace my stash!

Fandango bird tote

And what do you know – it’s paper pieced! This little bird is a freebie pattern from Liljabs. Love it!

Finally – one of the highpoints of my quilty career… a surprise parcel in the mail from Kate Spain herself.

Alyce and I hosted the Sew Seasonal blog hop at the end of last year and Kate Spain was a fabulous guest judge for it. At the end of the hop, she sent Alyce and I thank you gifts! Imagine our surprise! So kind and generous! I still haven’t made these fabrics into anything, I just pull them out and admire them now and then (though the notepad lives on my fridge!). I want to make the perfect Christmas quilt with it – just waiting for inspiration to strike!
