…..was fabric!
Oh and not just a few random bits of fabric. How about an entire quilt kit?!
It is all Kiwi flora and fauna themed prints – so pretty! And it was packaged beautifully too.
I thought it was so lovely that Mum went looking for a quilt shop (The Stitching Post in Arrowtown if you’re curious!) to buy something special for me. She even took photos of the quilt shop to show me hehe! There was one particular quilt kit she really wanted to get (super cute wallhanging) but unfortunately no kits were available. So she went with this sweet one.
I’m likely to change the pattern a little though (Mum’s suggestion – I’m not looking a gift horse in the mouth – weird saying). This one is just a little too busy for me.
As if this wasnt’ a massive gift in itself, she added in a sweet FQ and a half metre of gorgeous texty print.
The FQ features a Tui bird which Mum was quite taken with on her trip! So I might turn that one into a potholder or something for Mum. She didn’t buy many souvenirs for herself. Plus I get the fun of making something with it for her!
Pretty exciting souvenir gift if you ask me! Now to figure out what to make with all this lovely fabric
Oh and while talking about fabric kits… must mention, Christa from Christa Quilts (one of the And Sew On BoM sponsors) has a fab quiltalong starting on her blog on the 5th June. The feature fabric is Lizzy House’s Pearl Bracelets – hence the name “String of Pearls” for the QA. Not only a fab pattern, but Christa also has kits available for it with a 10% discount (code CQA2013) available til the end of June. Worth checking out!
Linking up with Sunday Stash over at Finding Fifth! (PS. Fiona has a giveaway happening – go link up and check it out!)
Your mum knows you well! And a thank you gift with the bird fabric would be great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to make your Mum a potholder! I LOVE the text print. Hehe - did you know that to work out how old a horse is you look at their teeth? Hence the saying 'Don't look a gift horse in the mouth' - if you're given a free horse, accept it gratefully no matter how old it is!!
ReplyDeleteAwwwww - I think you Mummy loves you very much and not to mention appreciated what you did so she could go to NZ! Can't wait to see what you create with your quilt kit!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletesuch a lovely present. I love the kiwi fabric :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool souvenir! I actually like the pattern included.
ReplyDeleteOh Arrowtown would have been beautiful at this time of year...All those autumn colours. I haven't been to The Stitching Post but have heard it's pretty nice...nothing like the quilt shops in the USA though!!! If you need more Kiwi fabric, just let me know and I will send some over.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't stop laughing when I saw what your mum got you - we joke in our little quilt group about NZ quilter's obsession with native birds! Lovely mum - happy sewing :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet, thoughtful mom you have!! Have fun deciding on a layout! I am sure you will come up with something that fits perfectly!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great mum you have!!!!! I love the pearls quilt, I'm off to follow the link

ReplyDeleteYour mum's awesome! You're right, the suggested layout is rather busy. Looking forward to see how you'll change it. The little Kiwi is too cute.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a wonderful gift! Your mum is the greatest!
ReplyDeleteEsther
Thankfully it wasn't just a kiwi tee shirt...but I am sure the kids got some. I am a big fan of NZ and their bird life.
ReplyDeleteMom's are the best! Can't wait to see the changes you make!
ReplyDeleteOne of the ladies in my quilting class just made a lovely table runner using some of the fabric your mum brought you home from NZ. She was in NZ recently and must have visited the same shop - small world!
ReplyDeleteSo much better than a postcard or a stick of rock! That's a brilliant idea from your Mum. I love that texty/photographic print :)
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love Moms! Great gifts from your Mom, can't wait to see what you do with the kit.
