Going in Circles

The Round and Round quilt top is finished!

Here’s proof:

Round and Round Flimsy

And I love it! So pretty! The bright colours really pop on the grey background.

You’d need to see up close though that the flowers aren’t solids – they are textured prints. Color Weave in fact (what else?!).

Mmm color weave

Mmmm pretty pretty pretty.

The pattern is by Camille Roskelley – and while it was fiddly to put together (there are a LOT of HSTs in this!) it’s so worth it.

Circle of Flowers

So now’s the dilemma. How on earth do I quilt this?! Keeping in mind my FMQ skills are pretty much non existent and I do tend to be a minimalist quilter. Oh and I have to have it done by the end of the month.

Yep. So the top has been done for a few days now and has stayed sitting on my sideboard while I debate the quilting dilemma. What else to do when paralysed by indecision? Start a new project. Yep. Makes sense to me.

Paper piecing

That’s the tester block anyways – to see if my master plan worked. So far so good. If it continues to work, you’ll hear more about this soon. If it doesn’t, then I’ll bury the evidence and pretend this was never mentioned.

Back to pondering and procrastinating.

  4. Wow, that quilt top is seriously impressive! Totally know what you mean about feeling a little constrained by a not- so-huge quilting repertoire ! I'm sure whatever you do will look great.

  5. Wonderful...although I have no advice to offer on the quilting. Sorry!

  6. You know I'm a sucker for rainbows! And throw some HSTs into the mix, and I melt! Excellent to see them all together! What about some wonky straight lines? Might give it some continued movement?

  14. Love your Round and Round quilt, but I always start singing that "Right Round" song from the 80s whenever I see one.

Yes, bury the evidence if it doesn't work out. Brilliant plan. Although it looks quite lovely.

  16. so impressed you got yours done! Didn't Camille just stipple hers? Might be the best route - can't wait to see what you decide.

  18. That fabric is just perfect. I need that in my stash soon!
The pattern is just gorgeous. I would't know how to quilt this... Maybe around the contour of each circle some echo quilting like I did in my pillow last weekend? Don' t now if that would work on a shape made up of little shapes.

  20. The quilt top it awesome! I am totally paralysed on how to quilt my current project, and I have no thoughts for yours either, sorry! I do look forward to seeing how you quilt it! My deadline is the 22nd, so I am feeling the pressure as well!

  21. It's beautiful - LOVE the grey! I think it needs some 'soft' quilting to accentuate the round rainbows (though straight line quilting would probably be quicker and easier!). A large stipple? A variety of different sized circles that almost touch one another? Your tester block looks amazing too!
