WiP Wednesday- Lego and Stars
My son’s 5th birthday is next month. He is on a huge Lego kick at the moment. Loves it, and has already worked out what Lego kits he wants for the next 4 or 5 years birthdays and Christmases. I wish I was kidding. So I think this year’s birthday will feature a lot of Lego. Which I don’t mind – it’s practically indestructible (handy with children like mine). My mum still has the Lego collection from when I was a kid and it doesn’t look much different to then!
So what goes well with Lego that I can sew?! A lego mat of course. Here’s my first attempt at a paper pieced Lego mini figure. Yeah sure I could applique it but I prefer the challenge of paper piecing! This one needs serious tweaking, but not bad for a first attempt.
I was going to do a plain face on it but Jaybird likes the different expressions on his mini figures. So I asked him to show me his favourite one.
I have plans to make a big Lego playmat using some mini figure blocks as well as some brick blocks. Still planning it at this stage. Hopefully will have more to share next week. This guy might become a bag to hold the mat.
So my other WiP has some progress happening which is nice! I have added another 3 blocks to my Diamond Star quilt (free pattern can be found here). 2 I made at quilt group, the third I pinched off Marieka hehe. Thanks Marieka!
This one uses the last few scraps I had of Fandango by Kate Spain.
This one has some gorgeous swirl fabric from the What a Hoot range from Exclusively Quilters. That was my first serious quilting purchase way back when. I’ll be sad when use up those last scraps of the swirls! I love them!
And this is the one I pinched from Marieka. The colours aren’t right in the photo – much more purple. It’s gorgeous. It features Terrain by Kate Spain. I’m seeing a serious Kate Spain theme to this quilt.
So here’s how the diamond stars are looking together:
Aren’t they looking so pretty all together?! I need to make another 10 then I can start putting them together into a lovely big quilt of favourite fabrics.
Another work in progress – of the bloggy kind – the Practically Paper Piecing Blog Hop. Charise shared a gorgeous frame pouch on Monday, Alyce had a nappy wallet yesterday (and a giveaway!!) and Kizzie has shared a fab wallhanging today! Definitely worth checking out – and these girls will also be sharing fab things for the rest of the week.
