Sunday Stash Plus

I have some lovely goodies for Sunday Stash this week. The “plus” in my title refers to the extras I have to chat about (or it could just refer to the fact I got a ridiculous amount of quilty goodness this week!).

So stash first! I received my order from Lori from Stitches N’ Giggles the other day. And I am so thrilled with the goodies that arrived (plus they were super well packaged too which is great when ordering from overseas!). Here’s some quilter’s eye candy.

New fabric

The fabrics on the left are from Patty Young’s Lush in the pink and green colourways. They are being set aside for a quilt for my Nan. She may be turning 90, but I think bright cheerful prints will suit her well! Plus it was a good excuse to buy these fabrics!

The prints on the right are just assorted FQs that I loved – a bit more Lush, some Half Moon Modern, some Ruby and Vintage Modern and a chevron print. Oh my stash is very happy now.

Running stitch bundle
These 6 FQs are also from Lush and are called Running Stitch. They are a just because purchase. As in just because it is a nice print to have floating round the stash (and it was only $14.50 for that little set! Bargain!).

I also scored a whopping huge new cutting mat! Spotlight was offering 50% off one full priced item, so my fab Mum popped in and grabbed me the biggest cutting mat she could find. It’s 24” x 36”. My old one (18” x 24” – still a great size) is a bit embarrassing in its shabbiness. I think I’m a bit rough on cutting mats as I haven’t even had it for two years and both sides look dreadful! So that mat will be kept for cutting batting, and trimming up paper pieced blocks etc. And for when my rotary blade is getting dull and I haven’t replaced it yet Winking smile

With all the influx of new stuff, it was time to get rid of some of the old. I was inspired by a recent post of Gemma’s about sorting out her scraps. Mine have been a disaster. As in 4 embarrassing bags of pretty much every scrap since I started quilting (except for a few bags than went to preschool for craft activities). Seeing Gemma’s all so tidy and organised, made me want to do something similar. So the kidlets and I played “Sort the scraps!” (Say that in a really cheesy gameshow host voice and it almost sounds exciting!).

Scraps galore

That’s the pile we started with. Told you it was embarrassing. I had large scraps, charm squares and then tiny strings of oh-my-favourite-fabric-can’t-part-with-even-a-thread type scraps. Ridiculous. I was a bit precious in my sorting to start with, but as the minutes ticked by, I became a bit more cavalier and just saved the ones that can actually be used!

Organised scraps

To be honest, I have no idea why we sorted them into colour groups… oh wait, it was a learning activity with my children, about colours, and sorting and recycling. Or something. Yes, that’s a good excuse. But afterwards I realised I didn’t really have the storage space to store them individually so they all got lumped back into one bag. But! I reduced 4 bags down to 1. That’s impressive. I threw out these as preschool still has a gazillion from my last donation. I know because I get them back in the form of artworks from my son ;)

The aftermath

From now on, I’m not being so precious about saving scraps. If they are useable, I keep them, if they are ridiculous tiny strings, they go in the bin. And my craft room is a happier place.

So with all the new goodies, and the organising, I am one happy quilter this week! To top it off, we have started the Practically Paper Piecing Blog Hop and it’s off to a great start! We’ve had four projects to inspire us so far, with another 20 to go!

PPP Week 1
1. Umbrella pouch by Quiet Play
2. Sample mini by Kate Quilts
3. Toy storage by From Blank Pages
4. Sewing room mini by Luellabella.

And you can see more project ideas in our new Flickr group – come join us! Hope you are starting to feel inspired because there’ll be a linky party at the end of the month to share your own paper pieced project! Oh and prizes! Speaking of – there are a few more days for you to leave a comment for a chance to win an Oh Deer charm pack over here.

Hope you’ll keep hopping along with us this week – this is how it’s looking:
Mon 6th - Charise from Charise Creates
Tues 7th - Alyce from Blossom Heart Quilts
Wed 8th - Kiera from Kizzie’s Korner
Thurs 9th - Marieka from Bespoke Bites
Fri 10th - Sally from Sally Bally Creations
Sat 11th - Jane from QuiltJane

Whew! I think that’s about enough excitement for one day. Linking up with Sunday Stash because it’s fun to be a quilty sticky beak and see what everyone else has added to the stash this week!

  3. Glad to hear you had fun going through your scraps! I'm working on a scrappy quilt now that all mine are sorted. You were a lot more cut throat than me though, I still kept all the tiny scraps, you know, for applique eyes or other tiny pieces LOL

  4. What gorgeous fabrics! Loving those shades!
You could have put the scraps into sandwich bags. I guess if you need to distract your children again that could be an option some of mine are sorted by colour =D

  5. I keep seeing that Lush line and I'm not falling out of love with it. I might have to see if I can still score some somewhere. I especially love those lotus prints. So pretty.
