I’m a bit excited about this! I have decided to host a paper pieced Block of the Month (BoM) for next year! Even better – the patterns will all be sewing themed! Hence the name "And Sew On...".
Not too many pictures as I don’t want to give too much away just yet, but as I have posted this photo before… I can tell you this Sewing Room block will most definitely be included in the BoM!
But don’t worry – that’ll be one of the later blocks – give you a chance to get into the swing of paper piecing first!
So how is it all going to work?!
On the 1st of each month I’ll list a new sewing themed pattern in my Craftsy shop. For free. It will be free for that entire month, right until the 1st of the following month when the next pattern is released. At that point, the first one has to start working to afford my stash habit and sew on .
I have 9 sewing themed blocks designed – all things that you’d expect to find in the sewing room. We’ll start with the easiest one first and work up to some of the harder ones. So with 9 blocks, that takes us right through til September. October will be about putting the blocks together, and November will be for show and tell (and perhaps prizes?! More on that soon!). As for December – eh it’s such a busy time of year, we’ll leave that free for the all-important Christmas sewing!
Each block is 10” square so all put together, you’d end up with a small wall hanging sized quilt around 34” square (with sashing, smaller without). We’ll have monthly linky parties to share progress and then the grand show and tell of finished quilts at the end of the year.
How about a sneak peek for the first block which be available 1st January!
This one is Measure Twice – inspired by Fiona of Finding Fifth (that’s her block in the centre). A nice easy one to kick off the BoM with! Thanks to Fiona and Pippa for testing the pattern!
So what do you think?! Interested? Questions? Have I forgotten anything?
I hope you’ll be joining in – should be a lot of fun!
Fantastic! Love the first block!

ReplyDeleteOh wow... I'm excited about this! Count me in.
ReplyDeleteso excited..I've been wanting to learn paper piecing.. how much material will we need for the project?
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to estimate fabric usage as a lot of the paper piecing can be done using scraps. For bigger sections though (like the walls in my sewing room block above) I used maybe a F8th of Vintage Modern - definitely less than a FQ!). Hope that helps a bit! :)
DeleteI would love to make a mini for my sewing room, too. Count me in Kristy. Looking forward to it. Thanks so much for a fun way to get to know each other!
