Pink and Aqua Love

Two things happened to make this quilt come into being. First, I discovered that my lovely friend Erin did not possess a quilt all of her own. Now that’s just not right. Every quilter must have their own quilt to snuggle on the lounge with. Then secondly, I found out that my lovely friend Erin was having a birthday.

Birthday. Quilt Needed. Combine these two things and clearly there was only one thing that could happen. Yep. A birthday quilt.

Love in Aqua and Pink

Now please excuse the late afternoon shots. I assure you the colours are much brighter in person. Not only did I discover that Erin was having a birthday and needed a quilt, I found that out rather belatedly. So it was a mad rush to get sewing and get this in the post. Which allowed little room for lengthy photo shoots. I also totally fibbed to Erin when she asked what I was sewing last weekend and told her “nothing much”. Sorry Erin. Sort of.

I used a block idea from this blog post and just sized it up. I used 8.5” squares to make the quilt so it’s a nice snuggly 50ish x 60ish quilt – backed with polar fleece which makes it cuddly.

Love heart

I used some of my favourite prints in pink and aqua. Surprisingly, (or perhaps not so surprisingly), I had no problem finding 30 different prints in aqua/light blue in my stash. I’m not sure what that says about me or my stash, but I was happy to avoid repeats (though I did double up on prints around the HSTs).

Back andbinding

A bit of straight line quilting to hold everything together was as far as I went. As for the binding – I went with an ombre fabric which I thought looked quite pretty.

I’m happy with it – and happy it arrived not too long after the actual birthday Smile Erin - a big happy birthday to you, my lovely friend! I hope that you enjoy the quilt until you have a chance to make one yourself!

And yay – something to blog about! Lately there’s been a bit of secret sewing going on which does make it a little hard to share things here on my blog. Just watch, I’ll be able to share everything all at once soon! Isn’t that always the way it goes?!

  6. Maybe you should write a book called "Quilt in a Day". Oh wait, I think that title is taken. You are the sweetest friend to whip up a birthday quilt and I love the colors you chose and the design too!! The binding is perfect!!!
