Quilting - We have a lot of acronyms. HST. FMQ. WIP. WTF. Ok that last one isn’t technically quilting related but I think I say it a lot when I’ve finished a block and realise I have to unpick it. Or I sew a curve on backwards. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
But back to the topic. NYB is the latest acronym needed in my world. Mainly because I’m too lazy to type out the entire name. Gemma is Queen Wombat this month and has asked for New York Beauty blocks (see why I’m just going with NYB?). In case you’re not sure what they are – they are paper pieced blocks, with curves. Just for a bit of extra added challenge.
I am a bit slow going with my sewing as I’m a bit under the weather lately so haven’t been quite as productive as I would have liked. So instead of an entire block to share today, I’m just going to share a quarter. Because that’s all I’ve got so far! So, here, enjoy this quarter block! You only have to have a quarter of the admiration, I’m ok with that.
Don’t worry, I do have plans for the other 3 quarters. I’ll get to them soon hopefully and my grand plan will be revealed! See, here’s evidence I am planning more. Look at those super organised scribblings of just one letter to remind me of which colour to use where. It’s such an awesome system, that I totally put the colours in the wrong place to what I had planned (another WTF moment). But I’ll make it work.
So forgive the slow sewing. I am hoping to be back to my normal sewing self soon. In the mean time, let me live sew-cariously through you. Show me what you’re paper piecing this week!
Gemma really challenged you this time around :-) Good luck with the other quarters! Oh and it is looking good so far.
ReplyDeleteI've made one good NYB block and made it into a pouch for a swap and have recently attempted another and massive FAILURE! I will have to have another go. Can you imagine making a WHOLE quilt of the? Great idea for a bee block! Well done!
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better soon. Amazing block!
ReplyDeleteHaha!! Oh there is often a LOT of WTF in quilting!!
ReplyDeleteOooh! I love me a NYB block!! Love the contrasting colours with the charcoal!
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better soon x :)
I love NYB blocks Gemma is a genius to ask for them for her Bee block it spreads the WTF around ! Hope you get the spring in your step back soon too :)
ReplyDeleteFirstly, "sew-cariously" - love it! Secondly, "curved paper piecing" waaat? Sounds like a physical challenge! Hope you are feeling better very soon :)
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous ... NYB won't be in my vocabulary for a while, but wtf quite often is!
ReplyDeleteHope your feeling more your self soon! Completely agree with WTF being a big sewing phrase!!
ReplyDeleteThat NYE block is going to be stunning!
Sorry you're not feeling well :(
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely block! Thanks for sharing!
This is going to be stunning.... I love the bright colors against the gray background!
ReplyDeleteTake care and feel better soon!!
Susie
great block!! can't wait to see the rest
ReplyDeleteHope you are soon back to health! I love the quarter block. Well done!
ReplyDeleteI love NYB blocks. I have quite a few of them started. They do take a lot of concentration and sometimes those skinny bits on the outer edge (turning the curve into a square) are frustrating. But maybe that's just me :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, WTF is most definitely a part of my quilting vocabulary!
I haven't yet tried a NYB block. I love how yours is coming along :)
ReplyDeleteWell it's looking good. I've always liked how they look. I read somewhere that this block has origins in the south, and that it's a mariners compass block, but that magazine publishers back in the day renamed it New York Beauty as it sounded more exciting.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling a bit brighter.
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried a NYB block. Love the look, but the curves scare me.
It's looking great even for a quarter! Can't wait to see the rest. Hope you're feeling much brighter soon.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a full block to me. That's how I'd think of it anyway. Always like these blocks but just never have made them.
ReplyDeleteWhat about using Inklingo for the blocks? Linda has three (3!) different NYB and the NYWheel. Easier than using foundations and the blocks are perfect every time. Since you have to print the foundations, why not use the printer to print the cutting AND sewing lines directly on the back of the fabric? http://inklingo.com/section/inklingo-quick-start/63/msg/Welcome+to+Inklingo%21/a5771bce93e200c36f7cd9dfd0e5deaa
ReplyDeleteIt's looking great Kristy!
ReplyDeleteYour patterns are amazing! Thanks so much for hard work in creating them. As a first-time paper-piecer, I was thrilled with how the Lego Clone Commander worked out! You are very talented!
