Starbright #725

::Giveaway now CLOSED - thanks everyone!::

Paper piecing. I love it. Like a lot. It is my not-so-secret dream to spread that love of paper piecing all over the place. Everyone should paper piece! Paper piecing is fun! Ahem. I may be getting a little carried away. But you get the picture.

So when I contemplated sending a block into Quiltmaker for their awesome 100 blocks magazine… well naturally it was going to be paper pieced. The big inner debate raged – pictorial like my usual style? Or pattern which is also fun?

Pattern won out. Much more versatile and well, this happened. And I fell in love.

Meet Starbright.

Starbright

That’s right. That’s a screenshot of my humble little block as part of Quiltmakers 100 Blocks Vol. 8. To say I’m excited is an understatement. (Screenshot of a digital copy as I haven’t received a physical copy yet, despite loitering around the post office and checking my post box every 5 minutes. Apparently wishing does not make it faster).

The thing I really love about this block is there’s a secondary design when you join the blocks together. Here’s one I prepared earlier (ok I cheated, here’s an EQ7 mockup!).

Starbright Quilt Layout

This is how 9 x 12” blocks would look. Look at those pretty additional stars that appear!

Or perhaps you’re not loving my grey, aqua and red colour scheme. Well! No worries– here are some other colour variations of the same block. Because it’s fun to see.

Starbright Colour Variations

I’m kinda loving that monochrome one. It has a bit of an old time movie feel. As for the green and red – I think if I just added a few yellow dots to the centre, it’d totally look like a pointsettia. Hello Christmas!

I’m thrilled to have a block included in this awesome magazine, chock a block full of inspiration. Oh and hey, are you keen to nab one of these magazines for yourself? It’s out officially on the 19th November.

Or you can just leave me a comment here on my blog and go in the running for a freebie giveaway copy of the magazine thanks to the fab Quiltmaker folks. Stuck for ideas for a comment? Let me know if you prefer a pictorial or pattern style paper pieced design! You know, in case I’m brave enough to submit another design! Bonus second entry for followers (make sure you leave a second comment saying how you follow for that extra chance).  You have until Sunday 17th November (Aussie time) to enter!

Pop by and check out some of the other fab stops on the blog hop too! Lots of inspiration and more giveaways!

Eeeeeeee! (Don’t mind me, the excitement is just a little overwhelming!).

  144. I like the Christmas version! Maybe it's just that it snowed here the other day, but I'm starting to hum "It's Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas" under my breath. Cause if I hummed it out loud, I'd get lots of funny looks from people... but I digress. I am unfortunately not a fan of paperpiecing. I always get things backwards or the fabric isn't big enough to cover the space or any number of other problems. But if I have to pick a favorite, it would be the pictorial style, because they are cute!

    ReplyDelete
  145. Love your block - I like it in the monochrome colors too! Congrats on it being in the magazine! I prefer pattern style paper piecing... : )
