WiP Wed – Kitchens need quilts too

My mum’s birthday is rapidly approaching. Like next week. Normally I’m very organised but this year with the trip away and the epic LEGO Star Wars quilt… organisation has gone out the window. Then I had a light bulb moment on something to make for my mummy. A table runner/placemat/thingamajig for the kitchen. Because really, kitchens do need quilts too. They shouldn’t miss out on quilty goodness.

Naturally there’s paper piecing involved. I’m using the kettle pattern from my Sew Retro 2 collection.

Bit of Sketch for the kettle and some Kumari garden for the wallpaper. Pretty.

I’m also adding some matching coffee cups to the block to make it a bit bigger.

So now to put it together and figure out binding colour. Red? Black?

That’s my current WiP – there are a few ongoing projects still (I’m looking at you Happy Go Lucky, Fireworks and Fairytales) but no progress there. The WiP list is getting crazy, must be time to get busy and sew sew sew. Fortunately I have a handy app to keep track of everything. (Like that segueway?!) Want one too? Pop over and check out my review and giveaway ;)

Keeping it short and sweet as clearly I have a lot of sewing projects I need to get back to.

  3. I'm in awe of how you can line up directional print in paper piecing! I think a red with a fine white spot fabric would look good as binding :)

  4. Oh man, love those paper-pieced patterns! Hrmmm I like Serena's suggestion of red with white dots, but I like black as well. It will really make it look like it has a frame around it. :)

  9. That is going to be a gorgeous table runner. I would say black if you want it to be framed or my go to standard lately of a black and white text print. Sew, Kristy, sew!

  14. Looking good! I like G's idea of b/w text for binding, but red would look pretty sweet as well!

Are your patterns foundation pieced or do you use the freezer paper technique?

  21. Love the retro kettle. I vote for black, or better, a really dark charcoal. Someone said red & white polka dots... how about charcoal with white polka dots?
