A sewing caddy

I don’t do much hand sewing myself. But my gorgeous friend Marieka has just started on a hexie journey! She is moving in a couple of weeks and won’t have a space to set her sewing machine up yet (I know, that’s tragic right?!) so hand sewing it is!

I wanted to make a little gift and thought a sewing caddy might be the ticket. A bit of Wrenly, with some fussy cut dandelions, and a nice blue solid and it was done!

I used this tutorial from During Quiet Time and it was a nice easy one to follow. Probably made a bit simpler as I didn’t go scrappy. It's all matchy matchy.

Marieka loves dandelions – so I fussy cut this bit from Wrenly. I do love me a bit of fussy cutting!

Sewing caddy goodies

Couldn’t give it away empty! So a quick trip to the local sewing shop for a few little hand sewing goodies. Remember my comment above that I don’t hand sew? I wasn’t even sure what needles to get! Fortunately the lady behind the counter knew better and was able to help me out. And the other quilty gals added some cute fabric scraps and a fat quarter bundle. Sorted!!

I’ll be sad not to catch up with the lovely Marieka at quilt group, but I’m very glad we still have Wombat Stew to keep in contact and share sewing fun. Thank goodness for the internet right?!

And on that note, here’s a gem from my 6 year old. He asked me what it was like in the olden days… you know, when I was little. (Thanks kid). I listed a few things we didn’t have – internet, umpteen tv channels, fancy computer games, ipods… Little darling mulls that over and says “Gee, you must have been really bored then Mummy!”. Bless him. What will he do if we ever have a blackout?!

  6. Marieka will love it. I remember playing that game with my mom. She grew up with radio and TVs were a whole new era. I remember asking about skates, jump ropes and dinosaurs. I'm feeling my age.

  8. Looks good! I went all scrappy on the one in my tutorial because I was submitting it to a sew mama sew scrappy contest at the time. I've mostly done non scrappy ones since as they are a lot easier! Glad you enjoyed the tutorial!
