Lego Star Wars – Faceless no more!

That’s right. All the LEGO Star Wars guys got faces. Some got face lifts – as in I drew their faces on more than once. Thank goodness for Frixion pens - make a mistake, iron it off! But the important thing to focus on here my friends, the faces are done.

Paper pieed Lego Star Wars characters

I don’t claim to be an artist. In fact the whole drawing on my paper pieced blocks filled me with dread. Big time dread. But I did it. Not fabulously in some character’s cases (I’m looking at you, Yoda) but I”m hoping my Mr nearly-six will not be too critical. Bit of bad luck he is now that I've gone over the faces in Pentel fabric markers...

Faces 2

I did fib slightly. They aren’t completely done. Ahsoka needs white added to her face markings, and red for her lips (as do Padme and Leia. A girl needs her lipstick!). Ahsoka was a particular pain in the butt to draw. But I figure as long as she’s vaguely recognisable, it’s all good.

Oh and Yoda. Yoda, Yoda, Yoda. Why is your face so hard?! Crazy you drove me. In the bin I wanted to throw you hrmm! He looks a bit… strung out perhaps. But I still need to add little glints of white for reflections in the characters eyes and perhaps he’ll look less crazed. Okay so I still have a bit to go on these blocks before I can truly say they are –done-. But I’m closer!

Faces 1

I went for the more LEGO-fied faces for all the characters – including Anakin and Ahsoka. Their minifigures though have more realistic faces but that was a bit beyond me.

Oh and I’ve removed all the paper from the blocks. Boy was that a job and a half. It took a couple of hours and made a big mess of paper. Yeah, sorry trees and environment. It was for a good cause. So now it’s time to sash these blocks and start making this resemble a quilt and not just random blocks. Three weeks to the big birthday… I reckon I’m on track.

Keen to go a bit crazy and make your own Lego Star Wars quilt? Almost all the patterns are listed now. Yes I know, Chewy is still missing, I will add him soon! It’s also possible there’s a General Grevious block in the works. But if you hear no more about it, you know it didn’t work out and I buried the evidence.

Oh and talking about paper pieced patterns (we were, weren’t we?!), Gemma from Pretty Bobbins is having a giveaway of my party themed patterns over at her blog. Pop over and check out her awesome Celebrate quilt and enter the giveaway!

Party pics

Right, time to cut ridiculous amounts of sashing and get this Lego Star Wars quilt done already.

  19. I know just how you felt, I once had to put faces on a PP dollies quilt and thought I'd wrecked it.
You on the other hand, have nailed it.
I made one block - it is now winging its way to nephew, transformed into a Storm Trooper gym bag. Thank you for the inspiration.

  25. sqqquuueeee!! They look great!

Before you read another word, bear in mind, I think yoda is great they way he is and you shouldnt change a thing. What you might be responding to is roundness of his eyes. He appears a bit shocked at first glance. In most realistic drawings of yoda, his eyes arent round because of the lids. The roundness works perfectly with the others because they are more cartoon-y and yoda has more serious "realistic" lines. He's your yoda though! Love him! :)

    1. They do! That's the best thing with Frixion pens! You ought to check out Lee's posts at Freshly Pieced - she did a couple on how well Frixion pens worked with ironing, washing, different colours etc :)
