Bee Blocks for July
Caught up on this month’s bee blocks – woohoo! No I’m not super organised – it’s more that I have a million more LEGO Star Wars blocks to make, so I have to keep on top of my commitments!
So here are my scrappy churn dash blocks for Rachel for Care Circle of do.good stitches:
I will readily admit, I’m not good at scrappy. I really struggle trying to make it scrappy and not too ordered. So I’m hoping these meet the brief! They were my first churn dash blocks and I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly and easily they went together! Love when that happens.
In complete opposition, this block went together fairly easily but definitely not quickly. A scrappy Octagonal Orb for QCA Bee #1.
My centre points don’t line up either. Not sure where I went wrong on that, but if I shifted the centre points, the outer ring didn’t line up and I figured that would be way more obvious! The sewing on this one took me over 2 hours – not sure on the cutting. I cheated a bit and had some pre-cut 2.5” squares. And again. Scrappy. I’m no good with scrappy. It upsets my sense of order and matchy-matchy.
And because I love this block so much, a quick revisit to Rapunzel’s tower. This one is for Gina for Wombat Stew.
Back to my paper piecing love. I love this block and it’ll be difficult to part with. I also have a few other fairy tale patterns on the way – it’s been very busy behind the scenes here. Between drawing fairy tale patterns and planning Star Wars blocks. Definitely the opposite ends of the creative spectrum. But fun!
Feeling good about having these July blocks done. Now I just need to get organised and post them off before August sneaks up on me!

Cute blocks! I have to say that the octagonal orb one does look like quite a challenge - no one will notice the centre though :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on rainbow scrappy- I like a bit more order and balance to my fabric choices! But you've done a great job of both bee blocks! I love the churndash block, and using a variety of colour and low volume really modernises it!
ReplyDeleteLove the Rapunzel block. Hope it comes to your craftsy shop!
ReplyDeleteooh I love the octagonal orb and your scrappy churn dash block!! Everyone has a different interpretation of what scrappy is!! It's great!!
ReplyDeleteAnd your Rapunzel is fantastic!!
I love all your blocks Kristy! Scrappy is my favourite! I'll probably ask for that every time it's my turn ;) It doesn't sound like you're a scrappy convert just yet, but who knows? :)
ReplyDeleteI love the scrappy churn dash blocks! Those blocks really have been growing on me ... I might have to add a quilt with churn dash blocks to my to-do list!
ReplyDeleteI had to make the picture of the octagonal block much much bigger to see the centre points so don't stress it. The matching of the ring is much more important and you got that perfect. Good job on the scrappyness - I struggle with that too. I think I have done it and then when all quited and binded I find that somehow I have made a pattern repeat!
ReplyDeleteLovely blocks! I feel the same with scrappy. I tried few time but not matchy colors or disorder makes me very nervous, lol.
ReplyDeleteAwesome blocks Kristy!! I was so busy looking at all the color in the orb i didn't even look at the center. We watched Tangled tonight and i thought of you the whole time... especially every time someone said "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let your hair down" . :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous blocks and Rapunzel rocks!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't even notice the center of your orb! It looks great! And i love those churn dash blocks! But Rapunzel... i love her more every time i see her!
ReplyDeleteThe Orb block is great despite what you think of the centre!
ReplyDeleteI love rainbow, but scrappy is hard for me, too! All your blocks are beautiful!
