Especially when I have that gorgeous layer cake of Winter’s Lane just sitting there waiting for me to sew with it.
So sew I did.
Yep. I didn’t even cut up the fabric. I just picked sewed those layer cake squares together. This way I can admire all those pretty pretty prints.
Especially these ones with little cardinals in the trees.
Here I thought sewing simple squares (pre-cut no less!) together would make for a simple project. And yet I spent quite a bit of time with my friend the seam ripper. Between sewing the quilt sideways (6 squares across instead of down!), then muddling up the order of the squares, well… there was a lot of unpicking.
So there are still prints next to each other that I normally would have moved. But I have had enough of unpicking.
Somedays the sewjo’s just not happening. Even on the simplest of projects. But hey, my seams match and I have a decent sized lap quilt (50ish x 60ish) and seriously pretty fabrics. I’m just going to get some minky to back it with and call it done. Plenty of other projects that are requiring attention!
Speaking of future projects – there’s a super awesome blog hop coming up hosted by Alyce of Blossom Heart Quilts. A month long celebration of all things Kate Spain! You can link up projects you’ve already made, or new ones you’ve started with Kate Spain fabric during June. Oh and there are prizes to be had.So time to pull out that Good Fortune or Cuzco and start planning! Pop over and check out all the details here.
And that's me for WiP Wed. How about you?
I have plenty of days like that, the quilt still looks very pretty love the fabrics.!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I love the colors!
ReplyDeleteYou so deserve a lap quilt like that Kristy.
ReplyDeletePretty! Cracked me up though. I have those days all the time! ;)
ReplyDelete20c we're so happy when it's that warm haha. Pretty quilt simple squares are best!
ReplyDeleteit looks great
ReplyDeleteI love a simple squares design, it lets the fabric shine through and this is so pretty :-)
ReplyDeleteI hadn't seen this fabric range until you introduced me to it - I love it! So...what are you going to do with the extra 12 squares?
ReplyDeleteVery nice results! Your patience and unpicking were worth the effort. Love those prints!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!! I love a patchwork quilt. When I first saw this fabric and the new Charley Harper line I thought, " Kristy sure was ahead of the trend with her Winter Wonderland cardinals!"
ReplyDeleteWe can't even hit 20C and it is supposed to be summer here !
ReplyDeleteThe unpicking was wortb it your quick quilt is lovely.
I feel your pain on messing up block order. I always take pictures before I start sewing, but then I forget to look at them and compare! :D The quilt top turned out so beautiful. Minky is the perfect backing for such a cozy looking quilt!
ReplyDeleteI love that fabric! I think it lends itself to projects like this to see the beauty of the prints in large pieces. Im putting my Swoon quilt together, and the number of pieces i joined wrong way up was amazing. I'm not usually that clumsy. Sure enough i saw them all as i ironed so out came the quick unpick. I'm coastal too here in South Australia, so yeah freezing is when the temp doesn't get to 18*C!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful quilt and I love its simplicity - one can really enjoy the individual patterns. The red cardinals are favs of mine too. I've never tried a cozy backing ... hmmmm ... foog for thought!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely, Kristy. I've really become such a fan of simple patchwork!
ReplyDeleteThat's such a pretty top Kristy! We were having a heat wave here last week with over 30C every day :)
ReplyDeleteI just won some fabric from this line and can't wait to see it in person. Your quilt looks fabulous. I also really love the way you used it for the asymmetical backing on your cardinal pillow...fantastic!
