Something something WiP something something

Feeling a bit sleep deprived with a sick child who keeps us both awake at night with his coughing, poor kidlet (and poor me haha!). Nothing severe but enough of a cold to warrant staying home and not spreading it to the rest of his class… and enough to keep us both awake at night. So lack of sleep means lack of creativity. Hence the not so creative title of this blog post. And apologies for the not so creative content of said blog post.

I have a new WiP under way. But it’s a quick project – mainly due to a short deadline. Another birthday party this weekend (provided sick kidlet is on the mend!) so I think another personalised bag is in order.

I have gotten this far with the bag.

Bird on a bunting wip

Don’t be too impressed. That’s a test block for a as yet unreleased pattern of mine (opinions welcome!). I’m reusing, reducing, recycling (or whatever it is that Bob the Builder is brainwashing the current generation with) and making this block the feature of a little tote bag. Thankfully the birthday girl’s name only has 5 letters so I can embroider her name onto the bunting flags. Yep. I’ll get right onto that. Or maybe in the blank section of the block might work better. Decisions decisions.

I have also picked out the fabric for the rest of the bag. I used a very scientific, methodical way of doing that. Opened the stash cupboard, looked in the pink tub, and found this bit of pretty sitting on top. It works. I think.

So that’s on my agenda in the next day or two. I’m also finishing up the last couple of blocks for Round and Round.

A garland of round and round
Recycled pictures from last week. Yep I’m all about recycling, Bob.

The above picture is prettier than the current blocks in progress. But here it is all the same – just so I can show off my awesome row markers that my friend Jane made me.

Row markers

Can I just tell you those things are a life saver when you have lots of rows to put together? Jane put little arrows on them so when you are ironing, you know which way to iron your seams so they nest together beautifully. Genius, right?

So that’s me. WiPing away. And talking about giveaways (we were, weren’t we?!), make sure you pop by my Girl Friday Sews blog hop post for a chance at a $25 gift certificate to Pink Chalk Fabrics thanks to Heidi @ Fabric Mutt! Swing by and check out the rest of the awesome blog hop while you’re at it!

If anyone needs me, I’ll be napping. Or at least thinking about napping.

  2. Me likey! I'd vote for her name embroidered in a script type font, towards the right (not centred) of the blank bottom section. If that all makes sense. ;)

  8. Cute bird and bunting! The round and round blocks are great. The kids and I have a cold as well...and are lacking in the sleep department. Tonight it is due to the 1 year old's stuffy nose.

  26. Oh dear, I feel for the two of you - sleep depravation Is a form of torture! I love the bunting. Although the bird is very cute it might scare people who aren't very skilled at fiddly foundation blocks, so maybe publish it with and without the bird? (when I say people, I mean me! The cotton reels and I have been having serious words, and I did one with the wrong background and now I've run out of the fabric I wanted to use for the wood, and, and, and - its sulking in one corner and I'm sulking in another!!!)

  28. thanks for visiting my blog. I love the bunting and hope that you put up a photo of the finished bag. So with you in the tired state - very exhausting when a wee child is sick.

  29. The first thing I thought when I saw it (other than hey that's cute) was that the bunting would e the perfect place to embroider a name so I say go for it! :)
