It’s done! Fontastic is finished! And it really looks fabulous! What a wonderful group effort this one has been! Ready for an inundation of photos? Yep, me too.
Ready for the big unveil? Can I just say how hard it is to photograph a quilt that is this big?
Here it is complete! With every word block on its top! yay! 33 words made by 28 different quilters. This quilt all came about thanks to the brilliant idea of my lovely friend Erin. I needed the Just My Type alphabet pattern tested but wasn’t sure how to approach it. She suggested a word quilt with various testers making inspirational and encouraging words.
With the help of the Wombats, we came up with a list of words that included every letter of the alphabet. Impressive no? Perfect way to test an alphabet pattern! Then of course we had to have upper and lower case tested! That’s a lotta words! But I did enjoy going to the post office to pick up the parcels as they arrived (thank you for the extra treats included too, my generous friends!).
This is a more accurate shot of the colour. Unfortunately it was also falling off the fence. I did have a chuckle at Miss nearly 3 standing there with a big frown on her face saying “Naughty wind! No!”. It’s better than what I said when it fell off the fence. ;)
I wanted to use all the words on the one quilt. So there was plenty of length, but I needed to add just a smidge to the width, hence the borders. Plus the Simply Color really tied the colours of the quilt together beautifully.
And there is one extra addition to the words. A gorgeous 7 pointed star designed and made by my lovely friend Esther. Check out her blog post for details and the free pattern – have a look at Esther’s other gorgeous patterns while you’re there!
Disaster did strike while I was basting this one (basted on my dining table – geez so much easier than crawling around on the floor!!). I thought I didn’t have enough backing. With a bit of creative trimming, I managed to make it work. Just. Like 1/2” just.
I really didn’t want to piece the back. I liked it all one solid charcoal fleece colour.
And I really suck at trying to make straight lines in the middle of backing. So I’m happy I made it work. The fleece is so lovely and snuggly – and kindly donated by a lovely friend for this quilt.
Here’s an indoor shot to show the size. The bed is a king single and the quilt fits beautifully with a nice amount of drape.
And for fun – here’s what the rest of the photo looked like.
Haha! I avoided that mess nicely didn’t I! In my defence we’ve had quite a few home days of late which mean a free-for-all when it comes to toys. Time to clean it up later.
Back to the pretty.
I added little scraps of Simply Color to the binding for a bit of brightness around the edge. Plus I love Simply Color so much I didn’t want to waste any of it!
And finally - thanks for naming the quilt Gina! Fontastic suits it just perfeclt!
This happy quilt will be donated to a family who lost everything in the Tasmanian bushfires earlier this year. Hope that it brings them some comfort! It is a beautiful quilt and all the more special because of all the people involved. A massive thank you to those who participated in the making of this quilt. I so appreciate it!
Wow - it is lovely and will definitely be loved in its new home.
ReplyDeleteThis is massive!! And amazing! And I don't know why but I absolutely love the little star in the corner -- my eye is drawn to it everytime ;)
