Queen Wombat

So recently it was my turn to be Queen Wombat! That is, I got to pick the theme and have fabulous paper pieced blocks and awesome scraps sent to me for the month of November in our Wombat Stew bee group. It’s good to be Queen.

My theme was sewing. It was a close call with birds, as I do love birds too. But the idea of a sewing themed mini quilt created by my gorgeous friends was too much to resist.

Enough talk, more photos, right? Okay. Here are all 7 blocks together!

All 7 Wombat Stew blocks

Aren’t they fantastic?! I’m so in love with each and every one of them. I love that I have blocks that will remind me of my fabulous friends and look how great they all go together!

You want close ups right? Who wouldn’t?!

Fiona's tape measure

This is Fiona’s tape measure block. Those following the And Sew On BoM might find this one familiar! Fiona laid out a block idea and I put it into a pattern form.

Alyce's pin cushion
Here’s Alyce’s pincushion block. Look at that rainbow-y goodness!

Gemma's sewing machine
Gemma’s sewing machine – modelled on Gemma’s real life sewing machine! Check out the impressive matching of the striped wall paper!

Jane's spools
Spools by Jane. Love the sketch fabrics for the thread – oh and she used woodgrain fabrics for the spools. Love!

Lara's scissors
Lara’s scissors – you can tell because there’s a selvedge in there. Winking smile Love it – says “Made in Japan”. Perfect addition to the scissors!

Marieka's seam ripper
Glorious purple based seam ripper block by Marieka. Yummy Terrain mixed in there. Who could resist!

A Quiet Play Sewing Room

And of course, my sewing room block. The one that inspired the idea for the And Sew On BoM. Give it a few months and you’ll be making your own version of this if you’re joining in the BoM!

Not only did I get these amazing blocks from the Wombats, I also got these amazing scraps. Spoilt spoilt spoilt.

Scraps

Oh yeah. It’s good to be Queen. Smile Even just for a month.

A massive thank you to the Wombats for all the lovely squishy mail. I feel very blessed to know each of you and treasure your friendship. I am beyond thrilled now to have blocks sewn by you girls. Can’t wait to put them altogether into a wallhanging so I can admire it, think of you gals and smile. Thank you!

  5. Beautiful, fun blocks! Everyone did a great job. They did a great job of coordinating but not matchy, matchy. I am sure you will smile at the wall hanging every time you look at it!

  6. these blocks are fabulous!! I'm so jealous of the talent of you wombats. I tried my hand at the measure twice block at the weekend... it didn't go well!! No fault of your pattern, it was definitely me. I'll post about it later in the week. I haven't given up though, I'm going to practice some more!

  8. It is good to be a wombat. These blocks are looking all fab together. I would be inclined to design two more sewing related blocks and turn it into a nine patch wall hanging. We can all use more paper pieced sewing blocks!
