It all started when I saw this bundle of fabrics over at Sprightly Fabric.
Of course their picture was prettier than mine. But gosh – how can you resist this fabric? It’s Seaside Cottage by Heather Mulder Peterson who blogs at Anka’s Treasures. I love it. Like loooovvvveeee it.
So then the dilemma – what to make with it? No idea. Until I somehow came across this amazingly beautiful quilt pattern called Spanish Tiles. And you won’t believe it, it’s designed by Heather Mulder Peterson. Bit funny that! So I ordered her book Living Large 2. Tell you what, I will be making more than one quilt from this book! It’s all about showcasing larger prints in your quilts – something I love doing!
But back to the story. Look!
Can’t you just see the Seaside Cottage fabrics working beautifully in this pattern? And by more funny coincidence I had the perfect amount of aqua and dark grey homespun. Oh there was a little bit of glee when I realised that. I forced myself to finish off Diamond Stars quick smart so I could get started.
Lots of cutting, plenty of sewing, a little bit of unpicking and the centre section is done!
Eeeek! I love it! I wish the picture was better so you’d go “eeek!” right along with me. But trust me, it’s super pretty. So now I have the borders to add – which is long rectangles in the various prints. I am thinking of maybe adding another border in the aqua after that to make it a bit bigger and bind in the dark grey. Thoughts?
Ah see, match made in heaven. Oh and I am totally keeping this quilt for me. I love it too much to part with. So pretty. Pretty pretty pretty. I’ll try to get better photos next time. It was rather difficult with Miss 2 in the way touching it saying “pretty pretty”. I don’t know where she gets that from.
Linking up with WiP Wednesday over at Freshly Pieced. Are you?
Nearly forgot to mention! Tomorrow is my day for the Sweet Treats Blog Hop. Hope you'll stop by to see my little project (there'll be a free pattern! Not enough incentive? How about a giveaway? Do stop by!).
Oh loooove! I might have to investigate that book - I love large prints but don't tend to use them much due to lack of ideas so that book sounds perfect!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love quilt designs that let a great fabric shine--sure, color play is fun, but sometimes it's so satisfying to see a gorgeous fabric just running amok all over the top of a quilt!
ReplyDeleteYikes, that's absolutely beautiful! Nice work!
ReplyDeleteOh your pic is great.. I am for sure going EEEeek! :) That is so gorgeous.. yummy! I LOVE that pattern. Sounds like a great book. I have several larger/novelty prints that I hate to cut into b/c I'm afraid I won't do them justice. Can't wait to see the finished quilt! :)
ReplyDeleteKristy, that quilt is so lovely! The design is fabulous, but your choices of fabric and colors make it marvelous! I can't wait to see the finished top!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great quilt pattern and your colours and fabrics do it a whole lot of justice! I think an extra border of the aqua is a great idea, and the dark grey looks so good as a border around each fabric,so it will probably look just perfect as a binding...
ReplyDeleteGreat pattern and your choice to use it for those prints is fab!!
ReplyDeleteWOW that was quick. Loving it, of course. The colours are perfect and you are right - the pattern matches those fabrics to a tee. I think you're onto a winner with your border / binding plans too. Go forth and conquer! x
ReplyDeleteWow, you did that without even a word!! Gorgeous design! And great colours too.
ReplyDeleteOoooh yes it is very pretty pretty! And don't you just work at the speed of light!
ReplyDeleteSounds like the book is a success! The quilt pattern and fabric are truly a match made in heaven, can see why you are keeping this one to yourself :)
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous, love that pattern! Visiting from freshly pieced!

ReplyDeleteI am definitely eeking along with you! It is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's lovely! What a great pattern to showcase large prints!
ReplyDeleteOh, this is lovely! Or should I say: pretty, pretty, pretty, lol.
ReplyDeleteThat is one fantastic quilt!
ReplyDeleteWow that does look good with fabrics! The pattern was the right choice. I like your plan for finishing it off =D
ReplyDeleteI am totally going, "Eeeek! Love it!" right along with you. I also love that you're keeping it for yourself. I think we need to do that on occasion. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou are ridiculously productive girl! I am glad that you got 'diamond stars' out of the way and onto piecing this one. I have no idea how you did each of those grey borders but they do look very different to anything I have yet seen in a pattern. Your next border sounds delicious too!
ReplyDeleteGreat pattern...and your center top is just marvellous! Is the book worth it?
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I don't blame you - I'd keep it too! :)
