Starry diamonds or diamondy stars?

Whatever they are… I’m happy to say..the quilt is finished! Woohoo! Well I guess you don’t want to just take my word for it after all my moaning and dithering about this quilt, so how about a picture or 5.
Diamond star quilt on the fence
I added a 5” white border and then bound it in the same green as the sashing. As for quilting, I quickly abandoned all plans of crazy FMQ (really, you saw that one coming didn’t you Megan? Juliet?) and went with the trusty straight lines.
Diamond Star quilting
At first I was going to stitch in the ditch on the sides of the sashing, but that’s a bit unforgiving if you go a bit wonky. Like I’d know anything about wonky quilting (ha!) but thought I better err on the side of caution. So I quilted over my sashing. AND happy to say, I must finally be getting better at basting or quilting or both, because I barely had a pucker at the intersections. Whew!

Quilts are not the easiest things to photograph but I gave it a shot! The outdoors ones looked like they were under the sea. I’m sure there’s some technical camera stuff to fix that, but really, I just like to click the button and hope for the best
Winking smile
The back is pieced which is always a bit of fun. A bit of Terrain up the top and some solid green at the bottom.
Diamond Star pieced quilt back

I quite like how the quilting shows up on the back of this one! Normally I’m dreading how it looks on the back, but this one works I think.

Doesn’t it look cosy? It’s the perfect size for snuggling on the couch – about 40” x 60”. Not sure yet where this one is destined for, I’m just happy to have it finished! You can find the pattern for the Diamond Star here.

  6. Well done for finishing, especially since you lost motivation for so long (by your standards that is!). Love the straight line quilting, it looks so great contrasting with the backing!

  10. Love the donkey! And love the quilt as well. Good choice to keep the quilting minimally, it brings out the diamonds so well.

  21. It looks great! I usually end up doing FMQing because straight line scares me. I can't hide any mistakes!
