WiP Wednesday–Winter Stars

Perhaps this quilt should be more appropriately called Summer Stars – as it’s bloody hot here at the moment in Oz. But Winter Stars sounds prettier – and much cooler weather-wise.

I had grand plans to make this a big quilt for my Mum for Christmas. Then reality caught up with me and the realisation struck that I wasn’t going to get a big quilt done in time for Christmas. So change of plans – just four stars instead of 9, put together, bit of sashing and voila! A quilt top.

Here it is all dappled and pretty in the sunlight. The pattern is Winter Stars by Lynne of Lily’s Quilts (you can find it in the Christmas edition of Fat Quarterly). I used Sun Print Bike Path prints paired with some of the new Kona solids. They go together so prettily.

Winter Stars Pretty

Now my problem is working how to quilt this pretty pretty. Maybe some wavy FMQ to echo the Bike Path prints? I do have a fancypants sewing machine now and I’m actually bold enough to attempt FMQ. Totally. Maybe. Possibly. Remote chance. We’ll see.

With this, and some placemats that I’m working on (no updated picture!), I’m nearly up to date on my Christmas makes. One week to go! Time to sew sew sew!
