Paper Piecing Party – Thumbelina

Slowly but surely I’m working on the Fairytale quilt. I’m figuring it might be for Little Miss’s birthday so I have until May next year. Plenty of time! I’ll likely get it done before then but by giving myself a longer deadline, it somehow feels less overwhelming. That makes sense right?!

So the second block to join the collection is Thumbelina. She’s just hanging out under the mushrooms dreaming about what she wants to be when she grows up. I’m thinking she's hoping for 5’6”.

I used the cherry blossom fabric that I used to make my Lulu a dress. Which I’m happy to say is her favourite dress. Though I’m not quite as thrilled that she wants to wear it every single day… and also to bed… sure, that sounds cute, but the tantrum that ensues when I insist on washing the favourite dress… it’s not so cute. Good thing I love this kid.

While it seemed like a good idea at the time, I think the cherry blossom dress makes the block a little more pink than I would have liked. Ah well. Live and learn and paper piece on right?

I do love the little red and white polka dot mushrooms though. They are a bit of cute.

Of course there’s a bit of Sketch snuck in there for the grass. We all know how I love my Sketch and Colour Weave fabrics.

So here’s how my fairy tale quilt looks so far.

Yep. Two blocks. That’s impressive right?! Okay I know, two blocks hardly amounts to impressive but we can pretend.

I did add a new block to the Craftsy shop though! The knitting needles are available now for those quilters who knit... or knitters who quilt..

  1. Oh Kristy! She's so sweet! really adorable, x

  2. Replies
    1. Yes these are my patterns :) I'll be listing them in the shop soon!

  3. Adorable. You create the most amazing paper pieced patterns.

  4. That may be the cutest block I've ever seen!

  5. I love these fairy tale blocks. I'm also interested in knowing if these are your patterns and if they will be for sale? I have a 3 year old grand daughter and think this would make a fabulous quilt for her. :)

    1. Thanks Cindy! Yes I designed these patterns and they will be for sale in the near future. I will make a post here on my blog when they are listed :)

  6. It'll be another epic quilt for sure. I played a little with paper this week but only got one pic on my Wednesday post. I love the outcome.

  7. Hi Kristy! I love your blocks and the flowery dress is just perfect with the long blond hair! I wish I had time for paper piecing - it is so much fun! Hope to make at least some of your amazing letters soon! x Teje

  8. Looking good!! You are likely to finish your FT quilt before me at this rate and I had help :) I love the toadstools with Thumbelina and think it is so special to have incorporated Lu's favorite {made by mum} dress. I think when you have all the blocks together they will all look perfect!

  9. Delightful blocks, I think the flowery dress is just perfect.

  10. I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as a block that's too pink. I asked Princess. She agrees! I think the fabric is just right :-)

  11. So beautiful it.

  12. What a great block! I don't think the block is too pink and the fabric you chose for her hair was perfect. Don't forget the block will look different once its into a quilt and contrasted with other blocks or sashing. I bet your daughter will love that the fabric from her dress is in there.

  13. Another great block ~ Thumbelina is wonderful and love her dress! 5'6" is something to dream for too!

  14. I love this Thumbelina block! Too cute!

  15. I think the block and dress are just perfect, especially as it matches Lulu's favourite one too!

  16. I love that cherry blossom fabric! Nice touch.

  17. My goodness me, that is cute! I love that you've matched the dress fabric :D

  18. Thumbelina is adorable! She was always one of my favourite characters. Two blocks is a fine start! And both are very sweet!

  19. So cute! I while i love the dress, there's something about the sketch grass and the polka dot mushrooms against the sky that i absolutely love! And her hair!! Perfect fabric for her hair.

  20. She's adorable! Is she dreaming up quilt patterns, maybe?!

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment. I read each and every word! I'll do my best to reply to them either via email or here on the blog, when time permits!
