Can't help myself. Just finish off one big wip, and add yet another to the list, and put a couple more on my mental to-do list. So much sewing, not enough time!
It's been a quiet few days in terms of sewing lately, with things like a visit to the Fire Station Open Day, lunch with the grandies and Sunday School. All of which take priority to sewing of course. Especially the fire station. My 4yo is obsessed - so it completely made his day to spend time with real firemen! Found it quite funny that some of them had memories of being fire obsessed at the same age - maybe this will stick with J and be his lifelong passion! Who knows. Best part of kids - so filled with potential and possibilities.
So with all that, not too much sewing happening. But I have been having a lot of fun playing around with the freebie quilt designing program Quilt Assistant of late. I really love the look of the herringbone block but I didn't trust my cutting ability to get all the blocks straight and line up beautifully at the end. So! I decided to work out how to paper piece it! Seeing as I love paper piecing so much ;) Quilt Assistant made it quite easy, even added in the seam allowance for me. The hardest part was trying to size it just right so I could make it perfect for charm squares.
Here's what I came up with:
I ordered a charm pack of Half Moon Modern the other day and I made this block charm pack friendly... Well you know how it goes. As soon as the charm pack arrived, I had to try it out.
Bit disappointed in the charm pack as out of 42 charm squares, only 4 came in yellow! And this block used all four. Shame. I would have liked some more yellow blocks.
Yeah I'm having a bit of fun with this one! I like how it can look like a leaf up close, or a bare tree, or another version of the herringbone design. I've decided to make as many blocks as I can out of my charm pack then put them all together with more white sashing.
So three colours done, three to go. I'm really loving Half Moon Modern too - what a fabulous fabric range!
I think I need some FQs of the scissors... and the butterflies... ooh and the polka dots... Maybe just a whole FQ bundle! I also need more sewing time. Don't we all?
Linking up with SewHappyGeek's Manic Monday :) Lots of lovely things to see there!
Oh, I love your blocks they are really bright and summery!
ReplyDeleteI think there is a conspiracy between fabric manufacturers and designers to produce such wonderful fabrics that we have to keep coming up with projects to use them in. So you will never be without a WIP. There is nothing you can do about it so you might as well give in to the urges to buy more fabric when you can as it is completely outside of your control :)
lol..I have to agree with the conspiracy idea!!! your blocks are wonderful..love them
ReplyDeleteI thought I was ahead of schedule getting my May Bee blocks done but you were really on top of it. Half Moon Modern is so pretty and are perfect for the blocks you made.
ReplyDeleteI love these! Great design and great fabric...fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteThose are so pretty! Great job!!!
ReplyDeleteAren't you clever?! These are fabulous blocks!!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I love Half Moon Modern!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should have opted for the bundle instead of the charm pack!
ReplyDeleteYou're blocks look great, so bright and cheery! Loving the prints and colours =D
Oh these are so pretty - they look like gorgeous trees to me. Aren't you clever!
ReplyDeleteVery cool blocks! They were herringbone to me, until I saw the green. I have a photo I took of a palm frond that looks pretty much exactly like that. lol ...so now they are palm fronds. And the only thing I may love more than herringbone...yep, palm trees. haha.
ReplyDeleteCan you tell, I'm a fan!
I adore these blocks!!
ReplyDeleteThey're adorable. Really love the colours, too. :)
