Sew Kitschy – January block

Happy New Year, my friends! I hope 2014 is filled with fabric, sewing and friends!

So let’s kick off the new year with the new paper pieced Block of the Month! Sew Kitschy! We have 9 retro kitchen themed blocks to make this year! We’ll start with the easier blocks and work up to the harder ones (I’m looking at you Betty!). You can check out all the details of the BOM here.

Now one thing I’m doing a little differently for the BoM this year – giving you a choice!

You can wait to get the pattern free each month, or you can purchase the entire pattern bundle upfront.

Upside of waiting – well, free patterns! Yay! Upside of purchasing straight up – no more waiting! hehehe. I thought I’d try this option to cater to those people who don’t love BoMs so much (I gotta admit, I’m personally not so good with long-term WiPS) but would still like the patterns without having to wait til the very end. So – for whatever option you choose – free or paid – go check out my Craftsy store.

Onto the BoM! January’s block is the easiest of the bunch! There are only three sections to put together! Yay for an easy start, right?! We have the oven mitt and pot holder block up first.

I have very creatively titled it “Oven mitts Paper Pieced Pattern” in my Craftsy shop, but in my head I call it “Some Like It Hot”. Just a reminder on the pattern – it’ll only be free for the month of January then it’s paying my bills and we’ll move onto the February block. So head over and grab the pattern! Time to sew!

And a slight confession – I’m not actually sewing along with this one myself. Forgive me, but I’m just not a retro gal! But I did have a blast designing the patterns and am excited about seeing your version! My favourite part of the BoM is seeing what fabrics people choose and how you make these blocks your own! So please make sure when you finish your block that you share it in the Quiet Play Flickr group, or link it up here in the linky party. The linky will be open for the whole month so we can all see what everyone else has made (and pop by and leave comments of course!).

Can’t wait to see your blocks! Happy sewing, quilty types!

  6. This is my first sewing QAL priority, Now it was last year too.. but I didnt have goal setting set right.. LOL. I had written on my 2013 calendar every month QUIET PLAY....( I guess this is only funny in my head,) but now I looked back on 2013 calendar to pick up birthdays I see this QP in black sharpie. every month, I took the time to write it on every page.... Moral of the story, I set my goals to high with QALS, grandkids, and personal stuff.. BEING REALISTIC this year is my resolution..
