Paper Piecing Party – Blossoms in Full Bloom

I have finished my Blossoms quilt! Complete with a bit of dabbling in FMQ. It’s a miracle, I know. ;)

Blossom Quilt on a bike

As this is a quilt for my pink-loving gal, naturally I went with a pink backing and pink solid for the binding. It’s all about pink. Occasionally purple and red get a look in, but generally… everything related to my Lulu is pink.

Blossoms

The flowers are all paper pieced (you can find the Blossom pattern in my Craftsy shop). One of those funny things – I wanted a paper pieced flower pattern and drew this up. Found out soon after that it’s very similar to the traditional Weather Vane block – but paper pieced.

Blossoms quilting

Simple quilting on the back – straight line outline quilting around the blocks, then my little attempt at some FMQ in the centre of each of the flowers. My little Miss helped with the props for these photos. She also loves ladybugs.

Flower quilting

The fabric I used for these blocks is Daydream by Kate Spain. I initially bought a charm pack, fell in love, then ordered a layer cake. I drew up this design to make the most of the layer cake squares. It worked a treat.

Favourite Daydream Flowers

So this will be wrapped and put under the Christmas tree for my pretty pink Princess. Though we are in Summer now, it might not be needed for a little while! I did back it with fleece though so it’s fairly lightweight.

Blossoms quilt side

Of course it won’t be a surprise. It’s very hard to keep anything a surprise when my little one is home with me all the time. But she does know it’s being put away for Christmas (or Kinsmins as she calls it) and she’s good with that.

Lulu

She’s also a bit cute. But I may be a touch biased.

If you're a fellow Kate Spain fabric lover - I have a giveaway going on right now. Pop over here for a chance to win a charm pack of Sunnyside :)

So that’s my big share for the Paper Piecing Party this week! Now it’s your turn!

  11. She's totally cute! I wonder about quilt blocks too. As I make my own more and more I wonder if there's already one like it sitting in some quilting book that hasn't been opened for 20 years but someone already invented it. Shrug :)
