Koi Constellation

I still haven’t come up with a better name for this quilt, but hey it’s Koi fabric, and it features a bunch of stars. Koi Constellation will do.

So let’s look at some pretty quilt pictures and forget about my terrible quilt naming ability. Pictures, people, focus on the pictures.

Koi Constellation

A few details for the curious. The print fabrics are all fat quarters from Koi by Rashida Coleman Hale. It’s a beautiful line with such gorgeous colours! I struggled to decide what colour to pair it with. But as this is a gift for my son’s teacher, I figured a basic neutral ought do the trick when planning a quilt for someone whose tastes I don’t know (Holy run-on sentence, Batman!). Plus I had enough grey on hand to get started straight away. That may or may not have been the deciding factor.

Koi Constellation finished with Jade binding

The pattern for this quilt is called Starlit and it’s by Heather Mulder Peterson. You can find it in her book Living Large 2. Love that book. And this quilt was a lot easier to make than it looks.

Bright binding on Koi Constellation

I was a bit worried that this binding colour was a bit too bold.. but I do like how it picks up the colours in the prints. And again… it was fabric I had on hand and could finish the quilt straight away. Win win.

Koi Star 2

I think this one is my favourite print. It’s so pretty and bright and pretty and happy… and pretty.
I did struggle with the quilting. When do I not struggle with the quilting part of this quilty business?! I even appealed to my friends on IG. They all had fabulous ideas… and way too high expectations of my quilting skill Winking smile Though I appreciated each and every suggestion… in the end, I just sat down and started sewing. It’s very simple quilting. Don’t be too disappointed. But it’ll do the job and hold the quilt together. That’s the important part right?!

Simple quilting

Plus it made pretty stars on the back. Don’t ask me what’s going on with this photo, I flipped it and rotated and I still don’t know which way is up. I probably snapped the photo accidentally while adjusting the quilt, but it’s the best one I have of the quilting (such as it is!). It’s been incredibly windy (and we even got some rain!) around here lately, and we all know what it’s like trying to take photos when the wind gusts up and ruins the perfect shot.' My children have occasionally noted that Mummy’s a bit weird telling the wind to stop bloody blowing all the time.

Ant approval

I backed with fleece – my go to quilt backing of late. It really makes for such a lovely lightweight and snuggly quilt. Oh and look, even this friendly little ant liked the back of my quilt. (Ignore the dead grass – we’ve barely had any rain recently!).

Two finished quilts

So I’m happy. Two quilts finished. Oh yes, that’s right, Winterbound is finished too. I just haven’t managed any photos yet but that “Finished!” post shall be forthcoming!

P.S. Last day for the Daydream charm pack giveaway so pop over and enter now if you haven't yet!

  9. Love Koi Constellation ~ the dark grey really brings out the really pretty stars in the middle! I'm with you on the quilting part ~ the simpler the better for me. I do like all the swirly stuff but it causes me too much stress to do it. I'm a straight line girl (for now anyway).

  10. Like the effect of stars over the back round fabrics. How is the gray pieces attached? Are they just placed on top of the back round or are they pieced to the back round? 24Tangent@gmail.com
