Winter’s Lane

I mentioned yesterday that I have recently discovered a new favourite designer – Kate and Birdie Paper Co. I first fell in love with Winter’s Lane and nabbed a layer cake. So I thought it was time to share my Winter’s Lane quilt. I actually finished this a week ago and it has already been put to good use keeping us warm on the lounge!

Winter's Lane quilt and cushion

Now you can see how nicely it all goes together! I absolutely love snuggling up under this quilt. It makes me happy.

Winter's Lane blocks

I don’t understand it. These are not my typical colours at all, but there’s just something about them. So much so that when I bought the layer cake of Winter’s Lane, I couldn’t bring myself to cut into it – simply sewed the squares together in old school patchwork style ;)

Red backing on Winter's Lane quilt

I backed it with polar fleece – my new fave way to finish quilts. It makes it so soft and warm. I didn’t bother with binding – just a pillowcase fliparoo and then some straight line quilting to keep it all in place.

Quilting on Winter's Lane quilt

I quilted either side of the seams so ended up with a bit of a grid pattern happening. I do love my straight line quilting
.
Winter's Lane Cardinal cushion

It goes quite nicely with my paper pieced Cardinal cushion which was made with the leftover squares from my layer cake. (The pattern is a freebie in my Craftsy shop by the way!).

Winter's Lane quilt top

Here’s the full quilt top – yep I’m being lazy and recycling the flimsy picture but that hasn’t changed so I think it’s safe to use again!

Feeling very snug and cosy as we head into winter now. I’m definitely a cold weather kinda gal. Think I’ll be rather sad when the weather starts warming up and I have to pack this away for a few months!

Linking up with Let's Get Acquainted which is at Lucy's place this week.

  2. That looks easy and snuggly and beautiful. Was the polar fleece easy to baste? I've always thought it would be stretchy. No batting?

  7. What a beautiful fabric line. I haven't come across it before. No wonder it was hard to cut into, but it does look great as squares! I'm with you on winter, tho' it's not very pronounced here it is lovely to have a change of season.

  10. Oh I just love this quilt, the bird fabrics are gorgeous! Sometimes it makes a nice change to work with more muted tones doesn't it, and this works sooo well. And the fleece for the backing - perfect.

  16. That looks lovely, and not overly 'wintery' - you could use it a lot. The cardinal cushion is lovely too.

  18. I too am a fan of polar fleece backings. I have made quilts like this for my kids. In the winter they put these on their beds, under the doona, so the polar fleece is next to their skin because "it is so soft and warm Mum'! Lovely quilt.

    Cheers,
    Karen

  25. I just bought the Winter's Lane layer cake. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who found the prints to beautiful cut! My quilt will look remarkably similar to yours, I think.
