I have my quilt top done! That sound you're hearing right now? That's cheering with a few "hallelujahs"thrown in for good measure. I was surprised at just how quickly it came together! Now the actual basting, quilting and binding... may not be so quick (though my gorgeous friend Ms Midge finished hers in record time!).
So I went with the smaller version of the QA (hosted by Lee of Freshly Pieced - directions are staying up so no worries on missing out on making one of your own!). But when it came time to square up the quilt top, I couldn't bear to cut off the edges of the blooms on the sides. So I added some extra pieces in to the sides.
I sewed 8 v-seams without marking first. On the same day, my sister went bungy jumping. Clearly we are a family that like to live on the wild side.
There were a lot of scraps leftover from the Blooms but I didn't have my creative genius cap on that day so couldn't figure out how to piece teeny triangles and strips into a border without sending myself crazy. So I settled for using more of the solids in 4"squares. Happy with that decision!
So with the borders added - the quilt top fits beautifully on a single size bed. Now I just have to get busy and make the backing (fabric bought today, woo!) and figure out how to quilt it. maybe I should get adventurous and do some FMQ like Ms Midge did! I love that she quilted her daughter's name into the quilt - they do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Consider yourself flattered Midge. ;)
It's been a very fun quilt top to put together - helped along by a fun group of friends (oh and hey Molli, I'm thinking maybe you're right, white binding?! Don't be too shocked!).
One last pic of pretty then I'm done. For now.
Linking up with WiP Wednesday over at Freshly Pieced!

Absolutely Beautiful! Love the solids and the bright colors. Fantastic work!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! And I love the borders you added - I would not have been able to cut through those lovely blooms either - great solution :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, and the squares at the sides inspired! And I agree, white binding would just finish off all that negative space.
ReplyDeleteApplause from the Netherlands.
ReplyDeletepretty, pretty, pretty! that's all I have to say :-)
ReplyDeleteWell done - that's brilliant! Lovely colours.
ReplyDeleteAs for the bungee jumping - your sister is very brave! Not something I'd ever try - I like to keep my eyeballs inside my head!! Our son tried that and parachuting during a gap year trip to OZ - luckily he told me about his adventures AFTER he'd completed them!
It's so gorgeous!! And I love the border you added - genius in my eyes :)
ReplyDeletevisiting from WIP wednesday. Lots of work in the quilt. Am surprised you have gotten it finished so quickly.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt. Those colours really pop.
ReplyDeletehello pretty!! Sure did turn out beautiful and i can see why you didn't want to cut those blooms off. The colors you chose are so prety and i love how you did the borders too! Happy Wednesday!!
ReplyDeleteso pretty. And I agree - how did Ms Midge get her awesome quilting done so quickly?! I have taken forever just to quilt a cushion cover!
ReplyDeleteLove love love it. And a little more each time I see it. It looks like candy. Nom nom. :)
ReplyDeleteHow on earth did you and Midgey finish so quickly? I agree with Mareen that it looks like a lollie quilt.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty Kristy! Love the colours :)
ReplyDeleteThe blooms came out so pretty! Nice job! I have a ton of triangles left over from my Pearl Bracelet hexy cutting. DH says I should make something with them but to tell the truth I need to take a break from anything that does not have 90 degree angles!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful...great job!
ReplyDeleteYour blooms turned out so beautiful and I like what you did in the border too! I've got fabric for it but just haven't gotten to it yet.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely version!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely adventure you've had! LOL! Thanks for the shout out, and of course it's gotta be white! Hell, mine might even be white at this stage! Haha!
ReplyDeleteThis is a spectacular quilt, the illusion is amazing :)
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your humour! The quilt looks fantastic. I'm with Mollie and voting for the white binding - you don't want anything distracting you from those beautiful blooms! One of these days I'm going to make a quilt using all solids.
ReplyDeleteI love the comparison between v-seams and bungy jumping. Bungy jumping would be my sister too. :) I like the borders. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteFabulous Kristy! So if y-seams are the bungee jumping of the quilting world EPP must be akin to white water rafting :)
ReplyDeletegorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWahoo!!! Good for you, lady! It turned out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteThis is delightful!
ReplyDeleteLove it. Love the bright cheery colors. And somehow I see it spread out on the floor with little kids playing TWISTER all over it. Thanks for the happy thought.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun variation to the original pattern!!!
ReplyDeletevery pretty, congrats!
ReplyDeleteI considered filling in my blooms too and not trimming, but ended up trimming. Now I wish I had tried to leave them full. I am considering a border, too, but only got enough backing for the finished top without border. :/ It looks great! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you kept the blooms whole like that!! It's such a great quilt!!
ReplyDeleteOh Kristy, this is just stunning. So are you putting Moo's name on that quilt for me. LOL. You truly are an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great - love the borders!
ReplyDeleteThis is fab, and I LOVE the border! Hope it's ok to Pin to remind myself in the future :-) x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! and i love the border, it's perfect!
ReplyDeletePerfect Kristy! Bet LuLu is thrilled, even with those icky blue flowers. ;)
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, I laid mine out tonight and I, like you think I may add those white triangles in there so I don't have to cut into those flowers.... Congrats on getting the top done!
