Sunday Stash – with a purpose!

I’m happy to admit I’m a fabric addict. There are just so many beautiful prints out there, and the possibilities of what to make with them are endless. So often I buy fabric just to add to my stash because you never know when you’re going to need a certain print.
But for the second time, I have come across a line of fabric I just had to have. And it’s for a quilt for me.

Funnily enough, both times the designer has been the same. Heather Mulder Peterson of Anka’s Treasures. I just adore her fabrics!

So here’s the newest addition to the Quiet Play stash.
Summer House and Seaside Cottage Yumminess

This is a mix of Summer House and Seaside Cottage – in the grey, teal and lemon colourways. I know. Stop right there. Lemon? I don’t even like yellow. Grey? I’m way more of a white solid kind of girl. Aqua, well that’s a given. I do love aqua. But this bundle combination? It does not exactly scream “I’m a product of Kristy’s crazy fabric addicition!”.

This bundle even surprised me. But I just fell in love with it. And photos don’t do it justice. I have even planned what I’m going to make with it.

Lone star from Better Off Thread

I want to do an off centre lonestar – like this one of Janice’s from Better Off Thread. The awesome Janice not only has a tutorial on how to make this, but also on how to scale the size to whatever you want. Seriously awesome.

So here’s my dilemma. What colour background should I pair with my bundle? Dark grey? Light grey? Aqua/Teal? Oh I can’t decide! If it helps, it’s going to be for a quilt for my bed. It’s time to retire the Aviary 2 quilt.

Oh and must share – when I ordered the bundle of awesomeness, I also added in a scrap pack from Hawthorne Threads. Mainly to fill up the 9 yard limit and make the most of postage. Let me just say, the term “scrap” is used very loosely. So impressed! Roughly 1/4 yard cuts and fat quarters. I didn’t know that counted as scraps. That’s what half my orders are made up of hehehe!

Scrap pack

This one is a “fresh” scrap pack. And I’m thrilled with it. May be more of these in my future.I like pretty much all those prints and am sure they will work their way into my projects somehow! Because you just never know when you need to add turtles to your project.

Turtle scraps

So that’s me for this Sunday Stash. Any new additions for you? Oh if you're keen to add a charm pack to your stash, pop by my giveaway for a bit of Simply Color ;)

  1. Love the fabrics for your off-centre Lone Star! I would make the solid a dark grey to match the darkest grey in the centre fabric, or a dark teal like the darker green in the matching print (second from right) . I love Hawthorne Threads scrap packs! The last time I ordered a warm pack, they mistakenly sent a cool one. I let them know by attaching a photo and they re-sent the warm one, letting me keep the first!! Win-win!

  2. You can probably guess this already, but I'm gonna say yellow for the background! Think how cheery your room would be! That much grey could look really heavy. So maybe teal -- no, I'm sticking with yellow for the win!

  3. If this is for your bed I'd go with the colour you love the most, which sounds to me like the aqua!

  4. Pretty cool pattern! How about some natural linen kind of look for the background? No need to match with the fabric line.

  5. I quite like the idea of raspberry with that stash. Not pink, not red, and not maroon...so good luck finding some if you like that idea.! Yellow could be good. Navy would be safe.

  6. That fabric is just beautiful! My initial colour was a white/cream - matching the light in the fabrics. But then you could go for a very dark (the colour of the branches), raspberry is a great idea if you wanted to add a contrast - but I have to go with Molli - I think I would end up with lemon!

  9. Gorgeous fabrics Kristy!! I agree that since you are going to put this quilt on your bed, choose a color that you love, probably aqua! If it seems like too much aqua, use a bold or bright color as the solid frame around the star to make it pop. Love the pattern, too!!

  15. That is a great scrap bag! I remember Anorina posting about the fabulous scrap bags from Hawthorne Threads too. So a definite 'no' to a yellow background? Teal would be beautiful.

  16. oooo yay! I would say yellow (which wasn't a choice), or the dark grey, maybe a linen, but if you do a linen, make the background squares larger to compensate for the wooginess (Is that a word?!) of the linen. I can't wait to see it!

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment. I read each and every word! I'll do my best to reply to them either via email or here on the blog, when time permits!
