Tada! It’s done! Despite the unpicking and the quilting dilemmas, it is now finished! And I am very happy! Look at all those happy little herrings! Oh and look at that gorgeous blue sky in the background – after all my whinging about the rain – it’s beautiful now! 
As you can see, I left the quilting with what I was happy with. Those horizontal sections defeated me. It took me an hour and a half to unpick 8 rows of quilting on there so I wasn’t really game to try anything else in case I hated it. I quite like it plain now. I’m convinced of it. ;) 
The back is rather ordinary as I never really intend to turn this over. I just want to look at the happy bright side all the time. So I just pieced together some fabrics I’ve had in my stash for far too long. I think that silver one was technically a Christmas fabric. Pretty though. I also decided against a binding and did the old pillowcase fliparoo. 
I so love this quilt. It’s exciting to see a quilt come together from a random idea I had in my head about a paper pieced herringbone. All thanks to the clutch pedal in my car haha! A big thank you to those lovely folks who were so encouraging about my block design (even with the silly back story involved!). ReplyDeleteYou'll have to be a lot more careful now when out driving, there is no telling where you will get inspiration from next! I fear for the other drivers in your neighbourhood, if another part of the car catches your eye as a potential quilt pattern :)

ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic! I love how you quilted the red herrings! The backing is really pretty too! I know you said it is technically a Christmas fabric, but it works really well as everyday fabric!
ReplyDeleteUnpicking quilting really is the worst, isn't it? My machine doesn't handle thickness well (even at zero foot pressure) and my quilting stitches get so tiny!
This is probably a dumb question... but what is the "pillowcase fliparoo"?
