Random Rainbows – a finish!

Well I meant to get organised and post this yesterday so it could be a Friday finish. But it didn’t happen. However I did finish the quilt on Friday so surely that means I can sneak it in to TGIFF over at Quilt Matters… ;)
I’m not sure where to begin talking about this one, so let’s just look at a picture first.
Let’s go with… I am so happy with this quilt. It makes me smile. It brightens up a cold winter’s day. It’s filled with rainbowy goodness!  This quilt of happiness was made from Bee blocks from my first ever online quilting Bee. You can read a bit more about the Bee side of this here.
I had hoped to give it a lovely rainbow backing and binding, but that did not come together. However I had the perfect amount of that leafy fabric (something by Red Rooster Fabrics) for the backing. Hurrah! I thought about a rainbow scrappy binding – which would look fab on the front of the quilt but like clown vomit on the back. So I went with a beautiful light grey. So pleased I did.
The quilting is very basic stitch in the ditch. I’m a basic quilter. I don’t get brave enough to experiment and do fancy pants stitching throughout. I wish I had that courage but I don’t. So I go with what I know. Basic quilting. Plus I wanted minimal quilting as I want this to be a beautiful soft quilt to snuggle up with.  
Look! It’s even rainbow and happy when it’s falling off the clothesline during its photo shoot. Or maybe it’s just being coy and playing up to the camera with different poses. Who knows with quilts. They certainly have minds of their own. Ask any quilter. Quilts dictate how to be pieced, what fabrics to use, and how to be quilted. We are merely slaves to the design that’s trying to come out in quilt form. In this case, I think this quilt had the right idea.
This quilt is going to a fabulous charity that works with children in foster care and crisis in Australia. It’s called Angels for the Forgotten. They are always looking for quilts and little bags – check out their website if you’re interested in sewing some goodies for them! I know they’d appreciate it!
